Guide to Safer Swallowing

Reduce the stress of mealtime with our educational infographic.

Mealtime can be stressful for both people with swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) and the ones who care for them. People with dysphagia are at a much greater risk of aspiration—breathing in foreign material like food, drinks, or saliva1—which can lead to aspiration pneumonia, a serious and sometimes fatal condition. In fact, one half of all people with dysphagia will experience aspiration.2

The Thick-It® brand is here to help with our Guide to Safer Swallowing. Dedicated to improving the lives of people with dysphagia, our Thick-It® brand team has created a downloadable infographic outlining steps people with dysphagia and caregivers can take before, during, and after mealtime to help ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all.

Download our free infographic and display it at your workstation or in an area your patients frequently visit, such as the dining room, kitchen, or bedside. Knowing the steps of a safe swallow routine can help you with every meal!
