Building Your Dysphagia Care Toolkit is a free continuing education webinar for Speech-Language Pathologists, Dietitians, Dietary Managers, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in dysphagia care.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the key elements of a dysphagia care toolkit, including mealtime practices, swallowing strategies, and patient-facing educational resources.
  2. Explain the purpose, mechanisms, and appropriate application of commonly used swallowing strategies.
  3. Describe how IDDSI-aligned resources can support communication, caregiver education, and continuity of care across settings.

Continuing Education

  • Certified Dietary Managers, Certified Food Protection Professionals (CDM, CFPPs) earn one hour through the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers (CBDM), the credentialing agency for the Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals. This is a CBDM approved CE program that can be used toward CDM, CFPP recertification requirements when submitted in accordance with CBDM policy.
  • Building Your Dysphagia Care Toolkit awards 1 CPEU in accordance with the Commission on Dietetic Registration’s CPEU Prior Approval Program.    Roche Dietitians is the provider for Registered Dietitian and Dietetic Technician Registered CPE.
  • SLP prior approval has not been obtained for this webinar.  SLPs may self report the continuing education credit in accordance with the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association policy.

About the Presenters

Margaret Roche, MS, RD, CSG, FAND

Margaret Roche is the founder of Roche Dietitians and a nationally recognized leader in nutrition consulting. Maggie and her team at Roche Dietitians create strategies that help healthcare organizations distinguish themselves through food and nutrition. Most recently, Maggie has created IDDSI training programs for texture-modified diets that simplify IDDSI implementation, improve food quality and promote safety.

Maggie is a registered dietitian with a master’s degree in clinical nutrition. She has advanced credentials as a board certified specialist in gerontological nutrition and is distinguished as a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Katrina Woodward, MS, CCC-SLP, CDP

Katrina is a speech-language pathologist with 23 years of specialty experience evaluating and treating adult and geriatric patients with cognitive-communication deficits and dysphagia. A consummate professional, a proven leader, a dedicated mentor, and a patient advocate with a passion for evidence-based practice, Katrina currently serves as Chief Innovation Officer for SDX Dysphagia Experts, co-chair of the RI Health Care Assoc Rehab Professional’s Group and a US & Territories IDDSI Reference Group volunteer.
